Brechin Castle

Brechin Castle is a castle in Angus, Scotland. It is located near the city of Brechin and since the beginning of the 20th century serves as the headquarters of the Earl of Dalhousie family.

History

Was built the castle in the 13th century. The ground on which the castle was built, is situated since the 12th century in the possession of the Earl of Dalhousie family and originally comprised 607 & nbsü; sq. km. Today includes about 223 km ² of land to the castle. Its buildings are mostly from the early 18th century.

1696 commissioned James Maule, 4th Earl of Panmure the Scottish architect Alexander Edward with extensive modifications. The works in the style of William Bruce lasted until 1709. Besides the conversion of the buildings designed Edwards 1701-1708 and the corresponding, approximately ten acres of palace gardens. In the 1990s, was built on the site of the Brechin Castle Centre. There plants are sold and maintain a museum of the history of the Picts.
