Breda–Rotterdam railway

The railway Breda -Rotterdam also Staatslijn I is a railway line between Breda and Rotterdam. The railway is an important railway line in the south of the Netherlands. The distance is about 60 kilometers.

History

On 1 July 1866, the first section between Bread and Moerdijk was opened. The section between location Zwaluwe Dordrecht and was inaugurated on January 1, 1872. Between Dordrecht and the breakpoint Rotterdam Mallegat ten months later was opened to traffic. The part between Rotteram - Mallegat and Rotterdam Delftsche Poort was opened on 1 May 1877. The Rotterdam Central Station replaced the Rotterdam Delftsche Poort railway station. In 1950 the line was electrified. In 1994, the Willemsspoortunnel railway tunnel was opened below the center of Rotterdam, from then on, the trains no longer have the Inner City elevated railway, but only through the tunnel.

Course

The route begins at the station of Breda, and from there the route continues north through more moderately populated area to the border station in situation where Zwaluwe then change to Antwerp is. Shortly thereafter, she crosses the Hollands Diep over a two and a half kilometers long bridge parallel to the A 16 and the new high speed line Antwerp -Amsterdam. After Diep the route from south to north runs through the city Dordrecht. After Dordrecht, the route runs four tracks on to the Rotterdam Central Station.

Train services

Currently operating on the route the inter-city trains from Den Haag via Breda to Venlo and the fast train from Amsterdam to Breda, the night train from Eindhoven Breda and The Hague to Amsterdam. On the section between Rotterdam Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam, the Inter - City's run from Amsterdam to Brussels ( Beneluxtrein ) and from Amsterdam to Vlissingen and the regional train from The Hague to Roosendaal.
