Until the first half of the 19th century, the brewing industry was subject to strict rules. It was usually close to the serving also brewed ( brewpub ). Inter-regional trade in beer was the exception. Marketing therefore hardly necessary. With the freedom of trade and industrialization in the 19th century large breweries that were competing with other breweries emerged. Thanks to the latest technology of beer could be transported over long distances. Through its offices and publishers beer breweries could serve larger regions. This advertising measures were necessary. Inventions of new products such as coasters 1880 and crown cork 1892 offered another opportunity for inexpensive advertising.
