Březová nad Svitavou

Březova nad Svitavou ( German Brüsau ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located 13 kilometers south of Svitavy at the Svitava and belongs to Okres Svitavy.

Geography

The city is located in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands, on the left bank of the Svitava. To the east of the 535 m high rises Farský Kopec. Through the village the Europa road 461/Staatsstraße 43 leads from Svitavy after Letovice.

Neighboring towns are Dlouhá in the north, Horni Hynčina in the northeast, Rudná and Želívsko in the east, Horakova Lhota, Dobrosov and Sibir in the southeast, Zářečí, Marianske Údolí Moravian Chrastová, Podlesí and Brněnec in the south, Nová Amerika and Bela nad Svitavou in the southwest and Banín in the northwest.

History

The first mention of the episcopal rule Svitavy associated Bresovia village was in 1295 in a document of the Bishopric of Olomouc. Vladislav II gave the place on 1 August 1497 city rights and the privilege to hold a eight-day fair. The town of the Moravian villages were meadows and Mußlau, the latter was incorporated in 1850.

In the town the craft played a major role. Since the 16th century had the shoemaker their guild and the tailors, bakers, blacksmiths, butchers and weavers guilds arose in the following century. In addition, the water of the Svitava powered mills and flour Brüsauer enjoyed a good reputation.

An economic boom brought the construction of the railway from Prague through Brno to Vienna, on on January 1, 1849 the first train rolled. It settled in the sequence textile mills, a paper mill and a sawmill. On November 4, 1869, the two-track traffic began on the railway main line.

Since 1850, the town belonged to the political district Moravskotřebova and for the judicial district Zwittau. 1880 lived 1918 people in Brüsau. Between 1911 and 1913, the I. Brüsauer waterworks to supply drinking water from Brno was established in Mußlau. After the Munich Agreement was Brüsau, whose inhabitants were about 2/3 German, incorporated into the German Reich and was from 1939 to 1945 to the district Zwittau.

After the war was the expulsion of the German population and 1945 the city charter were not renewed. In 1948, the district Muzlov was evacuated to increase the drinking water protection area and renatured; only a house and the chapel remained. 1972 began the construction of waterworks II, which was completed in 1975.
