Svitava between Bílovice and Brno

The Svitava ( German Zwitta, also Svitava ) is a left tributary of the Svratka in the Czech Republic.

It springs three kilometers north-west of Svitavy Svitavy in hill country ( Svitavská pahorkatina ) in 453 m above sea level. NN in the village Javorník and formed at its upper reaches a natural border between Bohemia and Moravia.

At its running in a southeasterly direction are the villages Svitavy, Lany, Hradec nad Svitavou Březova nad Svitavou Brněnec, Rozhraní, Letovice, Svitávka, Mladkov u Boskovic, Skalice nad Svitavou, Lhota Rapotina, Doubravice nad Svitavou Rájec- Jestřebí Ráječko and blansko where it makes its way forward through the Drahany country. East of the Svitava closes there on the landscape of the Moravian Karst.

Other cities along the river are still Adamov u Brna, Bílovice nad Svitavou and Brno. On the southern outskirts of Brno Svitava leads after 97 km at Přízřenice in the Svratka.

The Svitava has a catchment area of 1150 km ². In 1997, the Svitava led an extreme flood, floods lesser extent occur repeatedly, the last being in 2006.
