Punkva

The Punkevní

Punkevní is a river in okres Blansko in the Czech Republic. It is 29 km long, the catchment area is 170 km ². The small river has become known nationwide as a part of the stretch of river runs through the underground of the Moravian Karst.

Course

The Punkevní arises voda in the underground of the Moravian Karst by the confluence of the streams Sloupský creek and Bila. Both inflows initially run above ground. Sloupský creek created by the union of the streams Luha and Suchy Potok above the Sloup. Below Sloupsko the stream flows and seeps through the deeper layers of the caves Sloupsko - šošůvské jeskyně and Amatérská jeskyně ( amateur cave ). Conservation

The Punkevní Valley with its numerous caves and karst phenomena has been declared in 1997 on an area of ​​556.5 acres to the National Nature Reserve Vývěry Punkvy. Together with the underground river, it is since 2004 one of the eleven protected under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands in the Czech Republic.
