Adamov (Blansko District)

Adamov ( German Adamsthal ) is a town in the South Moravian Region, Okres Blansko, Czech Republic.

Geography

The town is located 13 kilometers north of Brno in the transverse valley of the river Svitava by the Drahany country. At 308 hectares, of which more than half forested, live 4591 inhabitants (1 January 2013).

History

The industrial town is in close contact with the metal processing since 1360. The largest development experienced it attracted as a hammer works more and more workers in the 15th century. The village was also originally Althammer ( Staré Hamry ) and in 1732 under Adam Joseph Prince of Liechtenstein, the owner of the iron works on Adamsthal renamed. Since the 19th century Adamsthal became a center of mechanical engineering. Here in 1888 /89 " Second Marcus Car", one of the oldest original condition cars built.

After the First World War here, among other things, a defense industry was built. After the 1990s, a large proportion of state-owned enterprises has been resolved or reduced. On July 1, 1964 Adamov was raised to town.
