Børge Ousland

Børge Ousland ( born May 31, 1962 in Oslo) is a Norwegian polar explorer and adventurer.

Early years

Ousland grew Nesodden in place. In the period 1984-1993 he worked as a deep sea diver off the coast of Norway. From 1989 to 1991, he completed his military service at Royal Norwegian Navy Special Forces.

Expeditions

1986 Ousland crossed on skis with Agnar Berg and January Morten Ertsaas Greenland from the east coast to the west coast.

In 1990, he led with Geir Randby and Erling Kagge also skied his first Arctic expedition. The launch took place on March 8 at Ellesmere Iceland in Canada and ended on 4 May at the North Pole. The team was on the road is not supplied, but led the necessary equipment and food from the beginning to slide with it.

In 1994 he reached the North Pole in a solo expedition. The launch took place on March 2 at Cape Arktichesky in northern Siberia and after 52 days he reached the Pole on April 22. This expedition marked the final breakthrough for Ousland. Since then, he has worked professionally with the implementation of its own expeditions and by the way also leads guided expeditions.

In 1995 Ousland to a solo crossing of the Antarctic continent. However, after reaching the South Pole, he had to retire.

On November 15, 1996, he started to cross the second attempt the Antarctic continent in a solo expedition. The launch took place on Berkner Iceland, the goal of the McMurdo station he reached after 64 days on 17 January 1997. Doing so, he put a distance of 2845 km back. The sled weighed at the beginning of Expedition 178 kg. Also, this expedition was not supported from the air, Ousland had all the material and the foods from the start to the slide.

1999 Ousland climbed the 8,000 m Cho Oyu.

2001 Ousland crossed the Arctic in a solo expedition from Siberia to Canada via the North Pole in 82 days.

In 2003 he had to just below the summit of Mount Everest cancel the climb.

In 2004 he undertook together with Thomas Ulrich an expedition through Patagonia. Here, kayaks and skis were used.

2006 January 23, launched together with the adventurer Mike Horn of Siberia from the first winter expedition to the North Pole. This was achieved on April 23. Such an expedition carried out in the polar night had previously been considered impossible.

In 2007, he ran together with Thomas Ulrich from the North Pole, Franz Josef Land and executed so that the journey of Fridtjof Nansen and Hjalmar Johansen after.

In 2009, he leads the reigning Prince of Monaco, Albert II on an expedition to the South Pole on skis. This trip is divided into several similar trips with changing companions, with whom he takes over the years Skiexpeditionen to the North or South Pole.

In 2010 he creates together with a trimaran and its captain Thor Leif Thorleifsson the first complete circumnavigation of the Arctic in a single summer.
