Brian Davison (drummer)

Brian Davison ( born May 25, 1942 in Leicester, † 15 April, 2008 at Horns Cross Bideford, Devon ) was a British drummer. He was known primarily for his involvement in the progressive rock group The Nice.

Biography

Brian Davison was born in 1942 as the second child of Bella and Jack Davison. About his uncle George Davison, a jazz drummer, he play the drums was brought closer. His older brother Terry taught him how to play. Davison then played in various skiffle groups. After he finished school, he was initially Ausfahrer for the London Evening Standard, but continued to play drums in his spare time.

1962 Davison joined the Mark Leeman Five, which were managed by Ken Pitt. There he acquired his nickname " Blinky ". After a single release in 1965 of singer Mark Leeman died in a car accident. Nevertheless, the band with new singer Roger Peacock tried to keep going, but after a year, the group broke definitively on.

After Davison played in the bands The Habits, Mike Cotton Sound and The Attack. After David O'List left the soul group The Attack to start with Keith Emerson and Lee Jackson The Nice, Davison also joined in the newly formed group. After five albums, the band finally broke up in 1970. Davison then founded Every Which Way with singer Graham Bell. After the rather unsuccessful, self-titled debut album, the band broke up again. The reasons were to be found in differences with the record company and the resulting internal disputes.

Together with his old companions Lee Jackson and Patrick Moraz he founded In 1973 Refugee. Their only album was released in 1974, after Moraz migrated to Yes. The band broke up, and Davison joined the relatively short Gong. After he got serious alcohol problems and his marriage failed, he retired from the music business.

In the 1980s, he moved with his new girlfriend Teri West from London to Devon, where he taught drums and percussion at a college in Bideford. He received his alcoholism finally under control, as in 1988 he joined Alcoholics Anonymous.

In 2002, he participated in a brief reunion of The Nice. On 15 April 2008 the drummer died of a brain tumor.
