Brian Hayles

Brian Leonard Hayles ( born March 7, 1930 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, † October 30, 1978 in Coventry ) was a British screenwriter and novel writer. He was known primarily for his work on the film productions The darkness of the night, dive trip of Secrets, The moon mold and under the spell of the Caliph

Life and career

Brian Leonard Hayles was born in 1930 in Portsmouth in the English county of Hampshire. Hayles spent some time in Canada as a sculptor and art teacher before returning to Britain. There he continued his career as a schoolmaster in Birmingham still a while until, in 1963 he gave up this career and began working as a screenwriter for British television.

From 1963 to 1976 Hayles wrote numerous screenplays for episodes of well-known British television series such as Suspense (1963 ), Swizzlewick (1964 ), Z Cars ( 1964 to 1969 ), Legend of Death ( 1965), Coronation Street (1968 ) Doomwatch ( 1971-1972 ), Free hand for Barlow (1974 ) or BBC2 Playhouse (1976). Between 1964 and 1974 alone, 30 episodes created for the successful mystery series Doctor Who

1973 hired him Peter Sasdy for his movie The darkness of the night to fashion the novel by John Blackburn into a screenplay. The main roles of the horror film Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing played. In 1978, he met the director Kevin Connor know, for Hayles the screenplays for two films whose dive trip of terror and under the spell of the Caliph contributed. In the same year, the English director Dorothea Brooking stepped up to Hayles, the script for the lavishly produced by the BBC fantasy television miniseries starring James Greene, Sarah Sutton, David Haig and Caroline Goodall to write The Moon mold in the lead roles prominently occupied.

Besides his work as a screenwriter for television and the cinema, he also wrote numerous episodes for radio plays such as The Archers for the British radio.

Brian Hayles died on 30 October 1978 at the age of 48 years in Coventry. His novel Goldhawk was published in 1979 posthumously.
