Brieštie

Brieštie ( until 1946 slovak " Briešťa "; German Bries - sooner or Brießta Brestenhay, Hungarian Berestyénfalva - to 1907 Brjesztya or older Briesztya ) is a town in central Slovakia west of Turčianské Teplice.

Geography

The place is located 2 km north-west of Slovenské Pravno ( Windisch samples ) at a height of 580 meters and covers an area of ​​11,175 km ². Bries comprises the main town and the Brieštie 1954 eingemeindeten place Hadviga ( Hedwig / Hedwigsau ).

History

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1392 as Beryssth. In 1715, there were 11 dwellings in 1785 already 21 houses with 177 inhabitants in 1828 and then 26 houses with 132 inhabitants.

The place was inhabited until 1945 mainly from German -born population. In 1910 there were 352 inhabitants, 1930, 357 inhabitants, of whom 256 known to the German nationality ( in Hadviga 465 inhabitants and 458 of German descent ).

Due to the poor soils and poor earning potential associated with the church was one of the poorest in Czechoslovakia.
