Brighton is a city in the U.S. state of Colorado, United States. It lies partly in Weld County and partly in Adams County and is the County Seat.

Brighton is run as a Home Rule Municipality. According to the U.S. Census of 2010 Brighton had 33,352 inhabitants.

Geography

The city has an area of 44.3 km ², of which 44.2 km ² on land. Approximately 0.1 km ² ( = 0:29 %) are water.

History

The place that was named after the British city of Brighton, was charged on September 1, 1887 to the city. Since 1884, when a station along the Front Range extending railway line was established here, the place was a center of trade in the region. With the establishment of a dairy in the same year, the industrial development of Brighton began. From the early 1900s until the 1970s, the production of sugar was a major industry of the city.
