Brighton is a village in the west of the U.S. state of Illinois. The place is situated mostly in Macoupin County and to a lesser extent in Jersey County. In 2000 Brighton had 2,196 inhabitants, an official estimate in 2008 was 2,376 inhabitants.
Brighton is located in the Metro - East called the eastern part of the metropolitan area of Greater St. Louis the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri.
Geography

History
Brighton was founded in the early 19th century, began as settlers to convert prairie land in farmland. A post office was opened in 1837, 1869, the settlement of the city was raised. Brighton is also known for its historical museum.
In the city center there was a POW camp for captured members of the Union Army of the Confederate Army.
