British Electric Foundation

British Electric Foundation ( BEF) is a British musical project and a production company.

Band History

The British Electric Foundation was founded in 1980 in Sheffield (England) by Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware ( Heaven 17 ) after their separation by The Human League.

Under this name originated as early works, the experimental albums Music For Stowaways on cassette and 1981 Music For Listening To which contained already early versions of some songs from Heaven 17s Penthouse and Pavement. B.E.F. occurred as a production company of Heaven 17, Hot Gossip, and other artists.

1982 appeared the Sampler Music of Quality and Distinction with guest appearances from Glenn Gregory, Billy Mackenzie, Paula Yates, Gary Glitter, Sandie Shaw and whose participation then led Tina Turner briefly to her successful comeback.

In 1991 the British Electric Foundation released their album Music of Quality and Destinction - Vol 2, in which, among other Chaka Khan, Green Gartside ( Scritti Politti ), Terence Trent D' Arby, Lalah Hathaway and again Billy Mackenzie participated.

The last two Heaven -17 albums have been provided as in the early years with the BEF logo.

2011, British Electric Foundation: 1981-2011 published. In the box is Music of Quality and Distinction - Vol.1 with seven bonus versions, Music of Quality and Distinction - Vol.2 with six bonus versions and Music from Stowaways with three bonus tracks.
