Broadway (MBTA-Station)

Broadway is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston's South Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the line Red Line.

History

The Broadway station was opened on 15 December 1917. Metro Station originally had three levels, which were connected by stairs and so allowed a quick change between tram and metro. The top two levels ( street level and the upper tunnel ) were the trams reserved, while the inverted U -Bahn at the lowest level. Each of the three levels had two tracks and a central platform. The tram that kept the upper tunnel were replaced by buses in 1929, the aboveground holding tram lines suffered the same fate in 1953. Since the building is a pure underground station.

In 2012, the MBTA began with the construction of an emergency training center in the old tram tunnel of the station. The Department of Homeland Security asked for funding in the amount of $ 8.8 million. For training facilities include two carriages of the Blue Line, a car of the GreenLine and a bus. The first car of the Blue Line was lowered in September 2012 with a crane on the Foundry Street portal in the tunnel.
