Broken Bow is a city in McCurtain County in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Covering an area of over 13 square kilometers, nearly 4100 people live.

Broken Bow is part of the socio-economic region Ark- La -Tex, which includes parts of four states Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Geography

Broken Bow is located in the southeast of the State of Oklahoma in the southern United States, about 25 kilometers from the eastern border of Arkansas, 30 miles from the southern border to Texas. In the north and south of the city respectively close to nature reserves.

Nearby cities include Idabel (8 km south), Eagle Town ( 13 east ), Garvin (17 km southwest), Wright City (22 miles west) and De Queen (35 km east). Nearest large town is me about 1.2 million inhabitants over 250 kilometers southwest away Situated Dallas.

History

The current urban area was once part of the large settlements of the Choctaw Indians. Towards the end of the 19th century, a sawmill was built, around which built up the city. Ten years after their inclusion in the state in 1911 Broken Bow had 1983 inhabitants.

Traffic

From the south to the east of the city runs the U.S. Highway 70 leading to a length of about 3800 miles of Arizona in the west to North Carolina in the East. In a north-south direction also U.S. Highway 259 runs through the town, which leads in the north to Heavener and in the south to Nacogdoches. About 70 kilometers south of the city extends Interstate 30

Demography

The 2010 Census showed a population of 4120 people, spread over 1599 households and 1036 families. The population density was 317 people per square kilometer. 61.8 % of the population were white, 18.5% Native American, 8.3 % black and 0.6 % Asian. 3.9% were from a different ethnicity, 6.8% had two or more ethnicities, 5.32% were Hispanic or Latino of any ethnicity. The average age was 35 years, the per capita income was nearly 14,500 U.S. dollars, which almost 47 % of the population were below the poverty line.
