Bronkhorstspruit

Province

Bronkhorstspruit is a city in Gauteng province in South Africa. It is located 45 km east of Pretoria on the N4 road, on the border with the province of Mpumalanga in 1375 meters altitude. 2011, it had 3720 inhabitants.

History

On December 20, 1880 was here one of the first serious fighting of the First Boer War instead of ( battle of Bronkhorstspruit ). 156 killed or wounded British soldiers were killed or wounded seven other on the Boer side. 1894 a railway station was built here; 1905 was the city's founding. It is named after the farm family Bronkhorst, who moved here from 1858.
