Bronschhofen

Bronschhofen was until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland. Bronschhofen is located in the constituency of Wil. On 1 January 2013 Bronschhofen was merged with the neighboring community of Wil.

Geography

Bronschhofen located north of the city of Wil SG and has approximately 4,500 inhabitants. Bronschhofen consists of the villages Bronschhofen and Rossrüti. The hamlet Boxloo, Freudenberg, Gampen, Maugwil, Trungen and Uerental as well as the place of pilgrimage Three wells belong to the former church.

The focus of Bronschhofer industry, the electronics industry. Among other things, Swisstronics ( formerly Siemens AG) and memory module manufacturer Swissbit resident there.

History

In Gärtensberg forest finds from the Bronze Age as well as a Roman road were discovered. Bronschhofen was first mentioned in 796 under the name Pramolveshova. 859 Bronschhofen came into the possession of the monastery of St. Gall. 1495 the abbot regulated the rights and obligations between the monastery and the previously independent courts and Lower courts Trungen, Bronschhofen and Rossrüti in a common opening. This thus received its first constitution and were combined into an administrative district, which received the name screw collar later. From the 15th to the 18th centuries was always the screw collar with political and military conflicts on the side of the monastery of St. Gall. 1804, the municipality screw collar was a separate municipality. In 1817 it was renamed the Bronschhofen. Until about 1870 agriculture was operated primarily, then the agricultural production shifted in milk as well as meat production. 1911 Bronschhofen connection was to the rail network Wil - Kreuzlingen. Since 1969, an Army motor vehicle park located in Bronschhofen. Since the Second World War Bronschhofen experienced an economic boom and is now one of the fastest growing municipalities in the canton of St. Gallen ( cf. population). On 3 July 2011, the voters of Bronschhofen and Wil decided with a yes -vote share of 78.3 or 63.2 percent the merger to form a new political community Wil on January 1, 2013.
