Brotenau ( from Swabian " broat " ( IPA: broət ) = wide, so a wide Au, in old maps " width- ") is a V-shaped valley with little floodplain surfaces in the Black Forest to the city district Reichental Gernsbach, Landkreis Rastatt.

It is from Brotenaubach, the right source river of Eyach, drained. The creek is formed by several tributaries from the Wildseehochmoor and from the Mannsloh (930 m above sea level. NN ). After 7.1 kilometers and 360 meters height difference, the Brotenaubach combined with the Dürreych to Eyach. The valley runs predominantly in the Middle Bunter. In the mouth region of Permian outcrops. Glacial Karbildungen characterize the north- to ostgerichteten the valley slopes. The creek was used in the 18th and 19th century for Scheiterholzflößerei; the inflow over the ( Wild) Seegraben served this as a surge of water.
