Brother Walfrid

Brother Walfrid FMS ( born May 18, 1840 in Ballymote, County Sligo as Andrew Kearns, † April 17, 1915 in Dumfries ) was an Irish monk and founder of the Scottish club Celtic FC Prestige.

Biography

Walfrid was born in Ballymote, a small village in the north- west of Ireland. He studied for a teaching position and joined in 1864 the Marist Brothers at. In the 1870s he moved to Scotland where she taught at St. Mary's School and the Sacred Heart School, where he was in 1874 appointed headmaster. He also helped in the founding of St. Joseph's College in Dumfries.

In 1887 he founded the Celtic Football Club to raise the funds for the poor and oppressed of the Glasgow East End, lived in the mainly Irish immigrants. 1893 Walfrid was sent to the East End of London from its religious line, where he continued his work. He organized soccer games for the barefoot children in the districts of Bethnal Green and Bow. The charity, which was founded by Walfrid, The Poor Children 's Dinner Table ( lunch of poor children ) was called.

After his death in 1915 he was buried in the Mount St. Michael Cemetery in Dumfries.
