Brown Carpathian

The Carpathian brown cattle ( Russian: Бypaя кapпaтськaя, Buraja karpats'kaja ) is a dual purpose breed of cattle from the Ukraine.

Breeding history

In the 19th century local cattle with Brown Swiss and Braunvieh other variants were crossed in the Transcarpathian Oblast in Ukraine. In 1973, the Carpathian brown cattle were recognized as a breed. In 1980, 203,000 individuals, the total number.

Characteristics

  • Strong constitution, compact body, straight
  • Brown color in many shades
  • Chest deep
  • Adaptation to the climate of the Carpathians
  • Weight 489 kg cows, bulls 816-1000 kg
  • Milk yield 4000 kg with 3.7 % fat
  • Good growth performance
