Brown recluse spider

Loxosceles reclusa

Loxosceles reclusa is a kind of genuine spiders of the family of Sicariidae.

Appearance

Loxosceles reclusa is usually 6-20 mm in size. But there are also larger specimens. It is brown in color, sometimes yellowish. The front body ( prosoma ) is colored by the ocular tubercle to the thorax and dark pit of the chest pit to the back body ( opisthosoma ) runs a dark line. This drawing has a dark violin -like shape that has the kind in the English-speaking world the trivial names " Fiddleback spider" or "violin spider" introduced.

Behavior

Like all Loxosceles species build these spiders an irregular network with irregular threads and stay niche. The networks are often built in wood piles, warehouses, bathrooms, garages, or other places where it is dry and long time are usually undisturbed. Females leave their refuge extremely rare, only the males roam in search of a mating partner.

Dissemination

The distribution area of Loxosceles reclusa ranges from the mid-west to the south of the USA. The north western boundary of the site runs on a line from southeastern Nebraska through southern Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana to the south-west of Ohio. In the southern U.S. it comes from Central Texas before to the West Georgia.

Bite and poison

The spider is generally not aggressive and bites only when it is in danger of being crushed. The necrotic appearance of a bite can be confused with a Staphylococcus aureus infection. These are more common than reclusa bites of Loxosceles.

The bite is largely painless and is usually not noticed. The size of the affected skin area is very small. Over time ( within 2 to 8 hours after) but these wounds are more painful. Over the next 12 to 36 hours, the intense pains and the area affected will be greater. A few bites in the next few days ( about a week ) necrotic.

Other possible physical symptoms after a bite include headache, nausea, vomiting, cramps and muscle pain. In rare cases of sepsis.
