Bruce Fairchild Barton

Bruce Fairchild Barton (* August 5, 1886 in Robbins, Scott County, Tennessee; † July 5, 1967 in New York City ) was an American politician and writer. Between 1937 and 1941 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bruce Barton, the son of a clergyman, attended public schools in the states of Ohio, Massachusetts, Illinois. In 1907 he graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts. Since 1912 he lived in New York City. He was active as a writer and in the advertising industry. In addition to hundreds of newspaper articles he wrote non-fiction books on the subject of private success. His most famous work of literature was the book entitled The Man know body knows, that was religiously motivated. In the advertising industry him the naming of companies General Motors and General Electric is attributed. Politically, Barton member of the Republican Party. In the 1930s, he was a staunch opponent of Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal policies.

After the death of Mr Theodore A. Peyser Barton was at the due election for the 17th seat from New York as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1937. After a re-election, he could remain until January 3, 1941 at the Congress. In 1940 he renounced in favor of a then failed bid for the U.S. Senate to further candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1938, he participated as a delegate in the regional Republican convention in New York; and in June 1940 he was in the same capacity at the former Republican National Convention.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives sat Bruce Barton its previous activities in the advertising industry and as a writer on. He died on July 5, 1967 in New York. It is worth mentioning that he was a direct descendant of John Davenport (1597-1670), who founded, among others, the city of New Haven in Connecticut.
