Bruce Shand

Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand MC and bar (* January 22, 1917 in London, † 11 June, 2006 Stourpaine, Dorset ) was a British officer and highly excellent war veteran. He became known among the general public especially as the father of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the longtime lover and future second wife of Prince Charles.

Shand was the son of Philip Morton Shand (1888-1960) and Edith Marguerite Harrington (1893-1946), and later under the name of Mrs. Charles Tippett known. His parents divorced when he was three years old.

He joined in 1937 the regiment " 12th Lancers " one, served in the Second World War in France and North Africa, was wounded and was taken prisoner. Shand was awarded the Military Cross in 1940 and 1942 the bar (bar the Order ). From 1974 to 1992 he was Vice Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.

On January 2, 1946, he married Rosalind Maud Cubitt, daughter of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel, a daughter of Alice Keppel.

From this marriage the daughters Camilla Rosemary and Sonia Annabel and son Mark Roland emerged.

Bruce Shand, the father of Prince Charles, ill some time ago of cancer.

The royal family was announced that the former professional soldier died in Stourpaine in the county of Dorset on 11 June 2006 at the age of 89 years.
