Bruno Bruni (artist)

Bruno Bruni sen. ( Born November 23, 1935 in Gradara at Pesaro / Italy ) is an Italian painter, printmaker and sculptor.

With its figurative motifs was known already in the 1970s in Germany Bruno Bruni as a draftsman, lithographer, painter and sculptor. In 1977 he was awarded the International Senefelder price for lithography.

Life

Bruni comes from quite a humble background. His father was a supporter of the labor movement and the struggle against fascism at the end of the Second World War was one of the experiences that shaped Bruni's political orientation.

From 1953 to 1959 he attended the Instituto d' Arte in Pesaro. After exhibitions in Pesaro and Florence Bruni went in 1959 to London, where he began to be interested in the Pop Art. After an exhibition of his work in the Whibley Gallery in London in 1960 he came to Hamburg to the State Academy of Fine Arts. Georg Gresko enabled him to study that ensures ultimate station in his biography. Bruno Bruni said of his strict mentor and teacher in an interview in 1978: Without Gresko I would not be what I am today. Gresko helped Bruni to translate the voltage between Italian artistic tradition on the one hand and the surrealism and abstract expressionism other.

After Greskos death (1962 ) he studied with Paul Wunderlich, who taught him the technique of polychrome lithograph. Bruni left the university in 1965. In 1967 he received a scholarship from the Lichtwark price of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. He became a founding member of the CO - OP Artists Cooperative Hamburg 1968. He has since worked in Hamburg in the former converted Thedebad and in Urbino. For some time now he lives and works in Hanover, where his wife runs a gallery.

He is the father of actor Bruno Bruni Jr..
