Bruno Granholm

Ferdinand Bruno Granholm ( born May 14, 1857 in Myrskylä; † September 29, 1930 ) was a Finnish architect who until his retirement in 1926 worked in the railway office in 1892 and most recently was its director. Many of Granholm's early 1900s - built wooden station building years are still in use today and are in good condition.

Life

He was the son of Laura (born Tallgren (1815 - 1889) ) and Dean Tallgren Johan Granholm (1806 - 1880) was born and initially attended school in Myrskylä, then the higher school in Porvoo, 30 km away. From 1872 to 1882 he studied at the Polytechnic in Helsinki, which was called from 1879 Polytechnic Institute of Helsinki. During his studies he made ​​internships, including one at the prestigious architect Theodor Höijer (1843-1910), and later with Theodor Decker and Frans Anatolius Sjöström. In addition, he took a course in railway technology, an indication of his interests in that direction. Until 1892 he worked in an architectural firm and was then adjusted by the Finnish State Railways as a draftsman. Within a year he was promoted to " chief architect " and 1895 he was head of department for the building sector. Besides his work for the railway Granholm also designed several other buildings such as villas and apartment buildings.

Granholm's style is strongly influenced by the Romantic era, as it corresponded to the prevailing taste. The buildings are considered particularly valuable and detailed executed with carvings and other decorative elements that clearly highlight from other similar buildings.

Granholm was married to Maria Charlotta Granholm born Fagerlund, who gave birth to her daughter Freydis Maria ( 1885-1969 ).
