Bruno Junk

Bruno Junk ( born September 27, 1929 in Valga, Estonia, † September 22, 1995 in Tartu, Estonia) was a Soviet athlete Estonian origin. The walker was 1952 and 1956 Olympic medalist.

Sports Performance

Bruno Junk studied at the Polytechnic Institute in Tallinn ( Tallinna Polütehniline Instituut ) Building and at the State University of Tartu Economics. From 1948 he trained independently for running events.

Bruno Junk won the bronze medal while walking ( 10 km) at the Summer Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 at the age of 22 years. With the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he won the bronze medal in walking ( 20 km) at the age of 27 years. Four times was junk Soviet champion Walking ( 1951 and 1955 over 20 km and 1952 and 1953 about 10 km) and from 1948 to 1959 eight time Estonian champion in walking. Between 1951 and 1956 he set world records in going over 15 km and 20 km. Ten times he improved Soviet records, thirty times Estonian. In 1956 he received the title of " champion athletes of the Soviet Union " and 1969 " Honored Sportsman of the Estonian SSR ".

After his active sporting career Junk worked as a coach. He also worked in the Ministry of Interior and the Police Office of the Estonian SSR. From 1979 to 1989, was chairman of the Soviet junk Athletics Federation.
