Bruno Winawer

Bruno Winawer (* March 17, 1883, † April 11, 1944 in Opole Lublin, Lublin ) was a Polish writer, playwright and a doctorate in physics of Jewish descent.

Winawer studied physics at the University of Heidelberg. He was assistant of Nobel Prize winner Pieter Zeeman at the University of Antwerp. From 1917 to 1920 he worked at the Warsaw University of Technology. Thereafter he devoted himself to literature. He wrote comedies, science fiction novels, popular science feature articles, translated with Władysław Broniewski Brecht's " Threepenny Opera".

After the outbreak of war on September 1, 1939, he fled from the Nazis to Lviv - then under Soviet rule. After the conquest of Lviv by the Nazis in June 1941, he sought hiding in the Warsaw ghetto, escaped death in Treblinka and died of tuberculosis shortly before liberation.
