Brunswick is a town in Frederick County in the U.S. state of Maryland. The city had after the last population census (2000) 4894 inhabitants.

Geography

Brunswick is located in the southwest of Frederick County and only about 50 km downstream from Washington, DC., The city has a total area of 5.5 km ², of which 0.1 km ² is water.

History

The town along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal closed today channel was founded, the city became later a center of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad railroad company. This was built in the years 1897 to 1912 a six- mile long railway line along the Potomac. By construction, the population of Brunswick's quickly rose to over 5000 and transformed the city into a "company town" where most of the buildings and shops were owned by the railway company.
