Bruzella

Bruzella was a municipality in Distretto di Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On October 25, 2009, it was merged with five other municipalities to the municipality Breggia.

Geography

Bruzella is above Chiasso on the left side of the Valle di Muggio on a terrace slope. The municipality borders Italy at Monte Bisbino.

852 Bruzella was mentioned as Brusella. In Bruzella especially the forest inventory was used and manufactured cheese.

Today Bruzella is inhabited largely by retirees and commuters (80 % of the workers ).

Fusion in the Valley of Breggia

Already for April 20, 2008, the merger of the municipalities Bruzella, Cabbio Caneggio, Morbio Superiore, Muggio and Sagno to the municipality Breggia was announced. The community Muggio rejected this merger. However, it was decreed by the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino, which is why Muggio filed a complaint in federal court. After the defeat of Muggio before the Federal Court, the merger took place as of 25 October 2009.
