Morbio Superiore

Morbio Superiore was a municipality in the district of Mendrisio Caneggio in the district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

On 25 October 2009, it was merged with five other municipalities to the municipality Breggia.

Geography

The historic center is situated on a gently rising slope, about 450 m above sea level. M.. He is of old Ticino town houses, courtyards and some villas as well as the two churches of San Giovanni and Chiesa Sant'Anna, the latter known, formed by their frescoes from the late Baroque period. In the area there are also some vineyards; on the road to Muggio has arisen lately a new neighborhood.

The village has a kindergarten and a library. The school children in the neighboring village Morbio Inferiore have to visit even the nearest grocery store is located there.

In the field of Morbio Superiore a geological excavation site lies with fossil finds and exposed layers of earth, which is also open to visitors.

Fusion in the Valley of Breggia

Already on the 20th April 2008, the merger of the municipalities Bruzella, Cabbio Caneggio, Morbio Superiore, Muggio and Sagno to the municipality Breggia was announced.

The community Muggio rejected this merger. However, it was decreed by the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino, which is why Muggio filed a complaint in federal court. After the defeat of Muggio the Federal Court, the merger will now take place as of 25 October 2009.
