Bryan Douglas

Bryan Douglas ( born May 27, 1934 in Blackburn ) is a former English footballer. He graduated from 1957-1963 a total of 36 caps for the English national football team, scoring 11 goals.

Career

Douglas was born the son of a machinist, with four brothers and two sisters. He first visited the Blakemore Secondary Modern School and then worked in a Buswerkstatt in Blackburn as a motor mechanic. In his youth he played for Blackburn Town and moved in 1952 in the youth area of ​​Blackburn Rovers, having previously knocked out, among other things offers from Blackpool, Bolton, Preston and Wolverhampton.

Douglas made ​​at this time his military service and then only came in August 1954 on his debut against Notts County. He played mostly on the right midfield position, and as a right winger and was characterized by an above-average passing and good ball control. Although Douglas played only in the second division, he was appointed in 1957 to the English national team and made ​​his debut on 19 October in Cardiff 's 4-0 win over Wales. In the same season, Douglas succeeded with Blackburn promotion to the First Division. He also played after the first three group matches at the World Cup 1958 in Sweden. In the decisive game against the Soviet Union for a place in the quarter-finals, which England lost, but he was missing.

In 1960, Douglas reached the final with Blackburn in the FA Cup, which, however, clearly with 0:3 lost against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Two years later he graduated at the 1962 World Cup in Chile all four games and defeated there after a successful first round of the team from Brazil in the quarterfinals. In the following season he was the top scorer of his club and a short time later his international career was no longer continued, Douglas rose in the 1965/66 season from Blackburn in the Premier League. Due to an increasing susceptibility to injury then he finished in the 1968/69 season after 438 league games and 100 goals his career as a football player. He returned a short time later for the amateur club Great Harwood, where he played together with Ronnie Clayton and Roy Vernon.
