Bryce (Software)

Bryce is a 3D landscape generator whose name was inspired by Bryce Canyon in Utah. The idea was developed by Kai Krause, who has worked with his company MetaCreations the program up to version 4 and marketed. After MetaCreations shifted in 2000 its product orientation of graphics software in the direction of 3D web application and went bankrupt shortly thereafter in the wake of the bursting of the dotcom bubble, were all MetaCreations products, including Bryce, sold to other companies. Bryce Corel acquired and developed it further to version 5, the fears of the fans, Corel Bryce could transform such an extent that it could have anything to do with the original version of the program, have not materialized. Finally Bryce was sold a second time, only to be brought out of DAZ Productions to version 5.5 and later ( October 2006) to version 6.0. Even today, the program almost looks and feels of the operation almost at once as the version 2.0, for the Kai Krause, a completely new surface had created.

As of version 5.5 the program supports the import of Daz Studio characters and now offers an OpenGL preview with textures. In the fall of 2006, the version 6.0 was released. It supports hyperthreading for dual CPU use and can handle HDRI as background images. In addition, some workflow simplifications were introduced. On 7 March 2007, version 6.1 of Bryce appeared. The advantages of this program are primarily the intuitive user interface and a host of presets that allow you to create a landscape in no time. This is mainly for newcomers to the 3D computer graphics beneficial. Especially artists, the program opens up very intuitive, if there is to discover many more features for advanced users, some of which are very hidden.

For advanced graphic it is certainly disadvantageous that Bryce has only one view of the scene at the same time offers and lacks complex modeling tools. However, you can switch quickly between different view. The wide range of export and import opportunities for other 3D file formats make up for this but up for it. Finally, the specialization of the program is clearly on the characters and manipulation of landscapes.

Freeware

The version 5 of Bryce stood at the end of August to September 6, 2006 free download for Windows and Mac. In June 2007, a similar campaign was launched with version 5.5, a time limit is not known.
