The National University of Arts Bucharest (Romanian: Universitatea Nationala de Arte Bucuresti - often abbreviated as UNArte ) is the most important art school in Romania. It sees itself as a reflection of contemporary Romanian art and culture. It has its headquarters in the capital, Bucharest.
History
The National College of Art, the first art school in Bucharest, was founded on October 5, 1864 by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza and built with the help of artist Theodor Aman and Gheorghe Tattarescu.
In 1904, the Bucharest Academy of Applied Arts was founded, which Spiru Haret built up to and during the early years. Through the Higher Education Act of 1931 art schools were to art academies. During the 1950s, several additional departments were added ( to mention is primarily the Department of Plastic Arts " Nicolae Grigorescu ").
In 1990, the Institute changed its name to Academy of Art Bucharest and a few years again to its current name as the National University of Bucharest arts.
