Bucu, Ialomița

Bucu is a municipality in the district of Ialomiţa in southeastern Romania.

Geographical location

Bucu is located 9 kilometers north-east of the district capital Slobozia on the left bank of the Ialomiţa European Route 60 (DN 2A National Road [ Drum nationally] ). South-east of the municipal area, the Bărăgan - steppe follows, north of Bucu the place of sprawling corn and sunflower fields is surrounded.

History and Economics

Bucu was first documented in 1580. A settlement of the region is, however, according to findings in the area of the place - back to the Late Bronze Age - called by the locals Pochina.

The economic activity of the inhabitants is predominantly in agriculture and animal husbandry. There is also a furniture and a candy factory in the town. Modern industries are wood and steel processing and the engine. Current investments are focused primarily on the adjacent railway line and the complete electrification of the community. Among the planned future projects include the building of schools and roads, expansion of water supply and the construction of a large park.

Population

2002 identified from the 5287 inhabitants, 5231 as Romanians, Roma and 53 as per a resident called himself a Greek, as Magyar and as Lipovans.

Traffic

Bucu is located on the railway line from Urziceni after Ţăndărei. At the station operate in both directions for about four commuter trains per day.
