The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungarian: Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem, short BME, today also often English TUB) is the leading technical university in Hungary.

History

The college was founded in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II as Institutum Geometrico - Hydrotechnicum in Budapest. 1871 was renamed to Royal Hungarian - Joseph University of Technology and Economics, and therefore the granting of university status. 1934 successes again restructured and renamed in Palatine Joseph University of Technology and Economics, which has a crucial role in the industrialization of Hungary held the 20s and 30s.

After the failed Hungarian national uprising in 1956, the university was expanded to a total of six faculties and renamed the Technical University of Budapest. Beginning of the millennium, it was renamed to its present name.

The Technology and Economics Budapest University has around 24,000 students, 1,200 professors and academic staff, and consists of eight faculties:
