Budd Schulberg

Seymour Wilson " Budd " Schulberg ( born March 27, 1914 in New York City; † August 5, 2009 in Westhampton Beach, Suffolk County, Long Iceland ) was an American author and screenwriter.

Life

Budd Schulberg was born into a film family. His father BP Schulberg was a pioneer as a film producer in Hollywood, his younger brother, Stuart Schulberg also a screenwriter and film producer. He produced movies with Louis B. Mayer and Adolph Zukor was next chief of Paramount Pictures. School Mount mother was the sister of Sam Jaffe.

Schulberg attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. In the late 1930s he wrote for the first time with screenplays. In 1941 he published the novel What Makes Sammy Run? about the rise and fall of the Jewish boy Sammy Glick. 1951 Schulberg was called before the Committee on Un-American Activities, due to his former membership in the Communist Party. He introduced himself to the committee as a witness, calling colleagues, who then came up with the " Hollywood Blacklist ". After working with Elia Kazan, who had also called the name of the black list as a witness began. For Kazan, he wrote the screenplay for On the Waterfront and was awarded an Oscar. In 1957, another film with Kazan: A Face in the Crowd.

Budd Schulberg was married to Betsy Anne Langman since 1978 and got two children with her. Prior to this marriage Schulberg has been married three times. From 1964 until her death in 1977, he was married to actress Geraldine Brooks in his third marriage.

For his works, which often deal with the boxes, Schulberg was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003.
