The buginesische language ( Buginese: ᨅ ᨔ ᨕ ᨘ ᨁ ᨗ, Basa Ugi ) is a language spoken by nearly 4 million people ( Bugis ) is mainly spoken in the south of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It was formerly written in Lontara, but nowadays is mainly the Latin alphabet in use.
Buginese is a Ergativsprache the Austronesian family, one of the Malayo - Polynesian languages in 1123. It is closely related to the languages of the western Malay Archipelago as Javanese, Sundanese and Madura.
For about 3.5 million people is the Buginese language. Most of them, about 3 million, live in the south of Sulawesi. But there are also some groups in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Maluku and the Malaysian state of Sabah. In addition, there are still about half a million people who speak Buginese as a foreign language.
