Bujanovac (Serbian Cyrillic - Бујановац; Albanian Bujanoc or Bujanoci ) is a city and capital of the same name Opština in southern Serbia. Of the 43,302 inhabitants of the 461 -square-mile community are according to the 2002 census, 54.7 percent Albanians, 34.1 percent Serbs and 8.9 percent Roma.

Name

Bujanovac is derived from Buyan from an old Serbian name, and means the "City of Buyan ". Buyan is derived from the Serbian bujati ( bloom ), meaning " The Blooming ".

Geopraphie

Bujanovac is located on the banks of the Southern Morava, which arises in the field of Opština from the confluence of the Morava and the Binačka Moravica. The Niš -Skopje highway circling the city in the southeast.
