Bukhansanseong

P3

The Bukhansanseong (literally " the fortress of the mountains north of the Han River "), a fortress in Gyeonggi-do and Seoul, South Korea is located. It dates from the middle of the Joseon period. The present fort was completed in 1711, although plans for the building date back to 1659. The name is also given a fortress in the Samguk Sagi, but the supposed connection is doubted.

The modern Bukhansanseong was built to protect the entrance to Seoul after a gap in the defense during the second Manchu invasion of Korea 1636 and former Imjin war had become obvious. The Bukhansanseong was used as a royal retreat in emergencies and comprises 120 rooms. The wall is 7 feet high, 8 km long and has 15 goals.
