Bülent Ulusoy

Bülent Ulusoy ( born January 7, 1978 in Akabat, Kocaeli ) is a retired Turkish boxer. He started among others, two Olympic Games, five World and seven European Championships.

Boxing career

The 1.78 m wide coaching in Trabzon Bülent Ulusoy won the 3rd Cadet European Championships in Patras, Greece in October 1994. He defeated it in the lightweight Dominik Wencel from Poland, Daniel Güngör from Sweden and Ronny Weber from Germany. In June 1995, his victory was followed in the Light Welterweight at the 14th Junior European Championships in Hungary Siófok. He had it enforced against Zdravko Žugelj from Croatia, Mika Saartila from Finland, Pasquale Abis from Italy and Gerard Murphy from Scotland. In the 9th Junior World Championships in 1996 in Havana, he was parted from the other hand in the first round against Timur Nergadse from Russia.

In June 1997, he won a bronze medal in the welterweight division at the 13th Mediterranean Games in Bari after he retired in the semifinal against Laureano Leyva from Spain. In October of the same year he took part in the 9th World Championships in Budapest, but it lost to in the first round Francisco Calderón of Colombia. In May 1998, he came at the 32nd European Championships in Minsk prior to the quarter- finals where he was beaten by the Belarussians Vadim Mesga.

In May 2000 he won the 33rd European Championships in Tampere, Finland in the welterweight division. He suggested doing Steven Küchler from Germany, Riku Lumberg from Finland, Darius Jasevicius from Lithuania and Valeri Braschnik from Ukraine. Then he started at the 27th Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he reached No. 8. After winning duels against Bae Jin- Seok of South Korea and Dante Craig from the U.S., he eventually lost to Vitaly Grusac from Moldova.

At the 11th World Championships in June 2001 in Belfast, he won a bronze medal in the light middleweight. He stood up to Qi Jing from China, Khotso Motau from South Africa and Jean Pascal of Canada before losing only in the semifinals against Marian Simion of Romania. In September of the same year he also won with a final victory against Benamar Meskine from Algeria, the 14th Mediterranean Games in Tunis.

In 2002, he came at the 34th European Championships in Perm against Mirosław Nowosada from Poland and Konstantin Janowski from Israel to the quarterfinals, where he lost to the Russians Andrei Mishin. In June 2003 he won the first European Championships in Strasbourg, where he was able to prevail against Darren Barker of England, Donatas Bondorovas from Lithuania and Xavier Noël from France welterweight. The following month, he took part in the 12th World Championships in Bangkok, where he joined the Cuban Lorenzo Aragon defeated in the second round.

In 2004 he defeated at the 35th European Championships in Pula Predrag Radosevic from Montenegro, before retiring in the second round against Oleksandr Bokalo from Ukraine. For this, he again won the second European Championships in Madrid and participated in the 28th Summer Olympics in Athens, where he defeated Ellis Chibuye from Zambia and reached number 9 according to the following loss to Schersod Husanow from Uzbekistan.

In 2005 he won welterweight with victories against Zoran Mitrovic of Serbia, Rached Mardassi from Tunisia, Choayb Oussaci from Algeria and Xavier Noël from France, the 15th Mediterranean Games in Almería. At the 13th World Championships of the same year in Mianyang, he lost again against Vitaly Grusac. In 2006 he came welterweight victories against Dejan Milićević from Austria, Xavier Noël from France and Ryan Pickard from England to the finals of the 4th European Championships in Pécs, where he had to admit the Hungarian István Szili beaten. At the 36th European Championships in Plovdiv he beat in the first round Jaoid Chiguer from France, but lost in the second round the Russians Andrei Balanow.

In March 2008, he tried again to qualify for the Olympics, but failed in the European qualifying heats in Pescara against Nikolai Weselow from Belarus.
