Bullpen

Bullpen, or often referred to as " the pen ", is a term used in baseball. It refers to the area in which the pitcher warms up before he goes on the pitch. This area is usually the side behind the Homefield and usually looks like an empty swimming pool. In the bullpen pitcher throwing the ball against a padded wall in order to interject as to simulate the throws during games and practice again before the game.

The term bullpen is also a metonymy and describes all relief pitcher a first team as a whole. Thus, the transfer of a new pitcher for example is described as a " gain of the bullpen ".
