Bunad

As Bunad (plural Bunader ) is called in Norway traditional and national costumes designed. The word derives from the norrønen búnaðr what " household equipment " or " clothing " means something, but in the modern sense is a neologism of the 20th century.

Many Norwegians wear Bunad not only in folk events, but especially during festive events such as weddings, baptisms, confirmations, as well as on National Day, May 17

The Bunader the various regions differ in shape and pattern, although there are many color options for Bunader. Rarely they are produced even by the ladies in the house, and then especially for girls for confirmation to serve as a gift. Bunader for men are much less likely.

The Bunad tradition originated in the 20th century and was inspired by similar traditions especially in the German-speaking world in the 19th century. However, the tradition is not common in all population groups, and was originally funded by nationally oriented circles in the sense of national romanticism.
