The deepest point is 725 meters deep and is located approximately at the point where the Hardangerfjord in the smaller fjords Eidfjord and Bosvik shares.

Communities along the Hardangerfjord are Eidfjord, Granvin, Jondal, Kvam, Kvinnherad, Odda, Ullensvang and Ulvik.

The region around the Hardanger fjord is also called Hardanger.
