Federal Highway 22 (abbreviated BAB 22) - Short Form: Highway 22 ( Abbreviation: A 22) - was until 25 June 2010, the designation for a proposed highway in northern Lower Saxony. The route is to be implemented as part of the federal highway 20 according to recent forecasts. In the regional press the A 22 was often called "Coast Highway " and should work with their coastal course improve the hinterland connections of the North German ports.

The originally planned as the A 22 motorway was to lead from the A28 between junctions Bad Zwischenahn -West and Zwischenahner on the A 29 at Jäderberg, through the existing Weser tunnel on the A 27 near Bremerhaven until the planned triangle Drochtersen with the A 26. There, the highway should go to the original only up to this Autobahndreieck planned extension of the A 20, which should be continued from there through a planned Elbe Tunnel by Schleswig -Holstein to the existing route.

History

The former A 22 was set as the " Second priority with planning law " in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan and was so at the federal level as secondary. The state of Lower Saxony sought the scale-up in the " first priority need" for the next revision of this planning work. For this case, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Transport announced as the proper planning approval process to the start of construction in 2014 and the completion of 2018-2020, at the public hearing for area management was named in 2020 as the earliest possible completion date. The state of Lower Saxony was opened on 10 October 2007 the regional planning process by the Government Representation in Lüneburg ( former county government ).

On 29 May 2007, the then- Lower Saxony Transport Minister Walter Hirche announced to plan a route priority over Bremervörde and Loxstedt between the Elbe and Weser. A northern route option that would result in about Lamstedt and Bad Bederkesa to the A27 north of Bremerhaven, but was not definitively excluded, the final determination was carried out in the regional planning process.

On 30 June 2009, the " Lower Saxony State Agency for Road and Transport", presented to the public a " national planning established route ".

On 25 June 2010 was handed over to the line determination of the Lower Saxon Minister Jörg Bode in Stade by the Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport Anak Ferlemann. Thereafter, the country's authorities could initiate the planning approval process. At the same time the previously mentioned A 22 motorway from Ferlemann was renamed to A 20.
