The Federal Highway 25 (abbreviated as BAB 25) - Short Form: Highway 25 ( Abbreviation: A 25 ) - leads from the interchange Hamburg -southeast over Bergedorf Geesthacht.
The A 25 is also called march highway because it leads exclusively through the flat marshlands of the Hamburg four and marshlands as well as the march of two communities in the Duchy of Lauenburg.
History
Originally the A25 should south over Lauenburg / Elbe, Dannenberg (Elbe ), Klietz and Wustermark be extended to the A 10. In Hamburg area were plans for a continuation on the Horner Kreisel ( A 24), the City North and the Hamburg airport to the A 7 in the amount Norderstedt. The plan was abandoned, however, there are still some Bauvorleistungen as the bridge of the ring on the Jahn kept free route. With the bypass Fuhlsbiittel now a two-lane each direction separated state road along part of the A - 25 was built planning. Along the southern extension of the Sengelmannstraße was expanded to two strips in each direction to Hebebrandstraße in Alstersdorf district along the originally planned route.
Planning
It is planned as part of the future bypass Geesthacht the A 25 to the B 404 to extend at Hohenhorn and continue to Lauenburg / Elbe as a two-lane B 5. The A 25 is intended to cross the Geesthang between its current end of the freeway and the future junction Geesthacht -Nord. For this purpose, it is to be conducted over a 530 meter long road bridge and by a 75 meter tunnel to overcome a height difference of 30 meters. This EUR 90 million project is very controversial in the region. It irreparably destroyed the natural environment in Bistal and doubled the traffic in the surrounding communities.
Designation
Although the motorway is mainly in west-east direction, it is contrary to the usual system with an odd number numbered, bear the otherwise only highways in north-south direction. The reason for this could be the planned course of the southeastern section to the A 10, which was later deleted from the plan.
