The Federal Highway 544 (abbreviated as BAB 544) - Short form: Highway 544 (abbreviated as A 544 ) - is a highway in North Rhine -Westphalia. The highway was planned as early as 1925 in the Weimar Republic and built as the beginning of Reichsautobahn Aachen- Cologne. The first section was passed in 1941 with the section from Eschweiler to Verlautenheide circulation. The extension to the European court, however, was not completed until 1958. After the extension of this highway to Netherlands ( today's A 4) it acts as a city highway for the city center of Aachen.
The A 544 starts at the Europe Square in Aachen and leads over five kilometers to the motorway intersection Aachen, where it merges into the A 4. It has a minimum of four lanes throughout.
