The Federal Highway 60 (abbreviated as BAB 60) - Short Form: Highway 60 ( Abbreviation: A 60 ) - is a highway, the beginning through the Eifel to the cities of Prüm and Bitburg over by the Belgian frontier near St. Vith as a continuation of the Belgian A27 to leads to Wittlich and crosses there with the A 1. The subsequent course shall not begin until the motorway junction Nahe with the A61 and then guides you through Bingen to Mainz and Ingelheim. From motorway junction Mainz ( the A643 ), the A60 via the interchange Mainz -Süd ( junction with A63 ) continue to Mainspitz Triangle ( with the A 671 ) and ends at the Rüsselsheim junction (A 67).

Both motorway sections are part of the European route 42

History

Originally, the A should connect 60 the Rhine -Main area with Belgium. The distance between Mainz and Bingen was born in the 1950s and 1960s sections as a new construction of the federal highway 9 and was classified in the 1970s to the highway. As early as 1976 there were plans for the construction of the missing Hunsrück route. The construction of the missing section failed then the resistance of the citizens initiative of several villages that lie behind the interchange Nahe Valley. The construction of this motorway route is now no longer provided. Today, the traffic from the motorway junction Nahe is passed over the A61 and from the AS Rheinboellen on the B 50. This is now up 2016Vorlage: In two years between the AS and the cross Rheinboellen Wittlich four lanes and highway-like expanded future /. To this end one of the longest bridges in Europe is built with the high bridge over the Moselle.

Sections

Eifel track

The route of Sankt Vith ( state border ) until after Wittlich is also called Eifel highway. Between junctions Bitburg and bathrobes the route leads over the Wilsecker Kylltalbrücke, which is one of the largest reinforced concrete arch bridges in Germany with 223 m span.

The route between AS and AS Bitburg Prum has long been expanded only two-lane. Many serious accidents led to the expansion was a priority. Because of the many viaducts of the expansion, however, was only completed with completion of Nimstalbrücke in 2000.

The section between junctions Prüm and Winterspelt is posted as a dual carriageway and still not fully developed four lanes. It is listed as " second priority " in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. The section is two-lane, in some areas ( with varying overtaking tires) also expanded dreistreifig and also provided with yellow kilometer of highways. Some smaller bridges and all flyovers have been built for four lanes, the three major bridges are completed, however, only two lanes. The section between Winterspelt and Ourtalbrücke at Steinebrück on which is the boundary between Germany and Belgium, fully expanded four lanes. There is a car park which was originally created as a customs facility between the junction and the Winterspelt Ourtalbrücke. A similar device exists on the Belgian side on the other side of the Our.

Gap closure Hunsrück- route

The gap of the A 60 in the Hunsrück is expanded between the motorway junction Wittlich and the A61 mostly highway-like than B 50neu. For this, the high bridge over the Moselle was created as part of the Hochmosel transfer as the connection between the Benelux countries and the Rhine -Main area.

The track is divided into several sections:

  • Section 1 is located between the motorway junction Wittlich Wittlich and - Wengerohr. This section will be built four lanes, and should be completed by the end of 2013.
  • Section 2, which lies between Wittlich- Wengerohr and Long Kamp, and also the high bridge over the Moselle and three other major viaducts and a tunnel to the west contains the high bridge over the Moselle is until 2016Vorlage: will future In 2 years completed four lanes /.
  • The third section between Long Kamp and Hahn Airport is four lanes expanded in the following years, a completion date is not fixed yet, as the section is still in planning.
  • The fourth section from Hahn airport to the A61 at Rheinboellen involved the motorway-like expansion of the existing B 50 and was completed in 2011 four lanes.

If you then take the A 61 in the direction of Ludwigshafen, one also comes to the motorway junction Nahe valley, where you can then change onto the A60 again.

Closing the gap should have a positive impact on the economy and tourism in the entire Eifel- Mosel region, since it is then well connected in all directions.

Rhine -Main- track

The A60 begins in the Rhine -Main area at the motorway Nahetal on the A 61 between Bingen and Gensingen. Until the motorway junction Mainz is equipped throughout with two lanes in each direction plus side strips, of Ingelheim - West (towards Rüsselsheim ) and Heidenheim (direction Bingen ) was relabeled to the motorway junction Mainz the hard shoulder each to a third regular lanes.

From the motorway junction Mainz it is up to the Mainspitz triangle together with the A 643, A 66 and A 671 Mainz ring.

In the area of the motorway triangle Mainz to the motorway junction Mainz -Süd, the two directions are expanded in each case without hard shoulder and only with emergency stopping bays.

From the Cross Mainz -south to the junction Ginsheim the highway was expanded six lanes from the end of the 1990s, on the Rhine bridge while using the hard shoulder. Reasons of noise protection is located at Mainz- Hechtsheim Mainz highway tunnel. Since the official release on August 10, 2012 have three lanes in each direction is available and the exit Mainz -Hechtsheim - East is now in the tunnel. In the Hecht home there is thus no more highway bridges, the highway runs rather under the road and its tram.

The sections of the motorway junction to junction Mainz Mainz -Süd and Ginsheim to Rüsselsheim junction should also be expanded six lanes ( First priority of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan ).
