The Federal Highway 661 (abbreviated BAB 661 ) - Short form: Highway 661 (abbreviated as A 661 ) - also Osttangente Frankfurt or Taunusschnellweg called - leads from Oberursel ( Taunus) about Bad Homburg, Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main, New -Isenburg and Langen ( Hessen) to Egelsbach.

History

The northern part

Was opened today's A661 with the Bad Homburg section (now Junction 3 ) and Frankfurt- Bonames ( former AS 5b). While continuing to Oberursel - North could be rapid, the continued construction to Frankfurt - corner home was considerably delayed, in the meantime there was even a temporary end to the border between Bonames and Escher home near the Bonameser place. Again, years later, the extension to the junction Friedberger Landstrasse, where the highway from the north ended many years.

Closing the gap

From the planned route between Frankfurt- Friedberger Landstraße and Frankfurt-Ost, only one half was built until 1995, mainly because of the bridge required at Bornheimer Hang. It was completed only the eastern carriageway, which must share the lanes in the direction Oberursel and Egelsbach.

Between Bornheim and Seckbach, there is also a special structure. Built in 1995 ' gallery Seckbacher highway "is used on the one hand the Seckbacher highway and the Heinz- Herbert Karry Street as a bridge over the highway. On the other hand, the semi-open tunnel structure has been built but also the noise of the adjacent district Seckbach. Above the tunnel is a small park was created, which forms the conclusion of the Berger Straße. Within and to the west of this building the ramps of the proposed triangle F- Seckbach are already prepared.

The final part of this section proposes to double the width of the highway as part of the connection to the A 66 to six lanes and to build each one more bridge over the Seckbacher valley (270 m) and alder (200 m). Construction is carried out in November 2007. Until the end of 2011 in accordance with the now again dismantled Construction Project Information signs at the highway works to be completed, this is now delayed because of pending approvals, however until probably 2015. It then advances required for the motorway junction Frankfurt- Erlenbruch be built ( a two-tier bridge and the ramps), which connects to the proposed Riederwald tunnel.

Also planned was the Autobahndreieck Frankfurt- Seckbach, from where the A 66 should be extended by the Avenue tunnel at this end of the Miquelallee. The planning of the tunnel has now been abandoned. The Avenue clasp, an above-ground connection from the planned triangle to the intersection Friedberger Landstraße - but Rat- Beil -Straße is still under discussion.

The southern part

The south section lying between Offenbach and Egelsbach was also built, but still. Than the southern part of the federal highway 49, which was still planned as motorway between Kassel and Darmstadt On today's end of the highway already appropriate entries and exits have been built into / from Darmstadt. An extension is no longer provided, the appropriate planning was abandoned in 1980. Thereafter, this section was rededicated to the A 661 and later integrated the already existing Kaiserlei Bridge. This has already been built in the 1960s as part of the link road between Offenbach and Frankfurt- Ostend -Kaiserlei. The A661 ended after the connection of the southern section at Frankfurt Ratswegkreisel.

Special

High temperatures caused 15 July 2007 problems with the road surface. On the A 661 in Dreieich ( Kreis Offenbach ) pushed through the heat concrete slabs above the other. The expansion joints were not enough, the police reported. Several cars were damaged. The point at the exit towards Oberursel had locked and the cars will be diverted via the parallel track.

Due to the motorway could FSV Frankfurt, whose Frankfurter Volksbank Stadion is located right next to the highway, according to the stadium renovation until July 2009 to build a long time no video wall in his stadium. The mobile video wall on the guest grandstand was removed without replacement at the end of the season 2009/10. The city of Frankfurt was afraid that they distract motorists and cause accidents. However, in 2010, the FSV got after prolonged dispute with the city 's permission. The first building permit for a floodlight as a prerequisite to the approval of the stadium for the second Bundesliga was not granted because they feared a possible glare of road users on the A661 adjacent to the stadium. After some tests, which included the full closure of the highway, but the release was issued.

In December 2012, the ADAC published a statistic in which the A661 to the ten most dangerous highways heard with respect to wrong-way drivers. In the years 2010 and 2011 there were 50 times wrong-way driver messages on this highway. In absolute terms, it is ahead of all others, the A 98 ( Weil am Rhein - Tiengen ) follows with 30 wrong-way driver releases and the A 643 with 23 wrong-way driver messages. Extrapolated to 100 km per year and result statistically 67.0 wrong-way driver messages, here comes the A 661, the length of 37.3 km sense, as it takes so that the last place in the statistical order.
