The Federal President is the authority of the President of Germany and one of the highest federal authorities.

History

In March 1994, the official residence of the German President has been relocated as part of the Berlin / Bonn Act from Bonn to Berlin. The Federal President directly beside the Schloss Bellevue was opened with the inauguration of the new building on 23 November 1998 in the German capital. In the former Bonner official residence, the Villa Hammerschmidt, is the property management or an outside seat of the Federal President. The Villa Hammerschmidt was 1950-1994 Office and residence of the German President and since 1994 by the Bellevue Palace the second official and residential. His work took the Federal President in 1949 on the first official residence of the President on the Viktorshöhe (Bad Godesberg) on the end of 1950 it moved to the vicinity of the new official residence (Villa Hammerschmidt ). There it was, among others, in a purpose-built building, which housed 1898 finished semi-detached villa bellows and the 1900 finished villa Mrs Ernst Prieger at the Kaiser -Friedrich-Strasse ( the district of Gronau ). These properties were gradually over to the Federal Cartel Office.

Tasks

The duties of the Presidential include advising the President in his administration, the information of the Federal President on political events, the preparation of the decisions of the Federal President and the execution of his orders.

Construction

The Office is divided into three sections:

  • Division Z - Central Affairs
  • Division 1 - Domestic
  • Division 2 - abroad

Department of central Affairs

The Department of Central Affairs is responsible for the administrative and technical operation, and questions of protocol. The Central Division comprises approximately 100 employees who work in five presentations:

  • Section Z 1 ( personnel, organization, budget )
  • Section Z 2 ( Internal Services, security, visitor services )
  • Section Z 3 (information and communication technology, confidentiality )
  • Section Z 4 (protocol)
  • Section Z 5 ( Constitution and law, Legal Affairs, Policy )

Division 1 - Domestic

Division 1 - Home is in charge of the domestic arena. It is divided into five sections, each with up to six employees:

  • Unit 10 ( basic issues of domestic politics, federalism, integration and migration, churches, arts and culture, media)
  • Division 11 ( Community Office, petitions and petitions, artist help, congratulations and condolences )
  • Unit 12 ( business, finance, labor and social affairs, environment and transport )
  • Unit 13 (education, science, family)
  • Unit 14 ( firm orders )

Division 2 - abroad

The Division 2 - abroad is responsible for foreign policy issues and works closely with the Foreign Office. It is divided into three units with 13 employees:

  • Unit 20 ( basic issues of foreign policy, relations with America and the Middle East and international organizations and multilateral organizations and non-governmental organizations )
  • Unit 21 ( relations with the countries of Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, European Policy )
  • Unit 22 ( Relations with Asia, Australia, Africa, fundamental issues of development policy )

The chief of the Presidential spokeswoman for the Federal President, the planning staff speeches, the Office of Communications and a liaison officer at the rank of colonel or captain are also assigned to the lake.

The President himself is a personal office to the side.

Employee

In Bundespräsidialamt around 180 people are employed. The secretariats of the surviving former president Walter Scheel, Richard von Weizsäcker, Roman Herzog, Horst Köhler and Christian Wulff are part of the Federal President.

Since 1953 the head of the Federal President is a Permanent State. He is the highest-ranking civil servant of protocol Secretary of the Federation and takes part in the meetings of the Federal Government and the Federal Security Council.

Deputy heads of department is the Head of the central issues. January 1, 2014, the Angelika Schlunck. Previously, she had held in the European Union, the head of the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria. Its predecessor was until December 2013 Rüdiger hut.

Building

The Office of the Presidential Building is located on the edge of the Tiergarten in Berlin beside the Schloss Bellevue. The Berlin slang calls it because of its ground plan " Präsidentenei ". It was built in 1996-1998 by the architects Gruber Kleine- Kraneburg. It consists of a four-storey office elliptical ring and a central tract for building equipment and supplies. In the polished black facade flush windows are recessed. The central square has a basement more than the office ring. The inner wall of the ring is raised and flush with the cuboid so that a raised inner ellipse is visible on the roof. The space between the ring and square is closed by a glass roof. On the roof above the elliptical ring, a photovoltaic system is installed ( see photo).
